Introducing the Chisholm Road Prison Project

Expanding Victoria's prison system

Victoria’s prison population has grown substantially in recent years, and with numbers expected to continue rising, we're planning ahead to ensure we can meet future demand.

That's why the Barwon South West Prison Precinct, which includes Barwon Prison and Marngoneet Correctional Centre, is being expanded to include a new maximum-security prison. The expansion is also part of ongoing planning to ensure the prison system is safe, secure and well-equipped to meet demand.

The new prison is currently unnamed but will be referred to as 'Chisholm Road' – after the facility's main entry point in Lara. Chisholm Road will house up to 1,248 prisoners and is expected to open in 2022. More than 650 staff will be recruited and we're hopeful you would like to be a member of our founding team.

Chisholm Road will enshrine integrity, innovation and an exceptional staff culture as the foundation of its world-class corrections services.

To join us, then, you need to possess personal integrity and a true dedication to making our state an even safer place to live. You are someone willing to examine traditional methods and use modern corrections research and science to strengthen prison delivery, with a focus on IT-enabled service delivery. We want to hear your innovative ideas. This is your chance to be a part of the change you want to see.

Roles we're currently recruiting for

We're now looking to hire Chisholm Road's first management team. If you are part of it, you will be tasked with helping develop a world class facility, which will become renowned for its strong and compassionate staff culture and for leading the sector in remand service outcomes.
